People’s”habits”
You usually handshake. Smoking is allowed almost everywhere, but by no means on collective traffic. In some restaurants there are smoke zones. ”Topless” is allowed on most beaches, and nudism is only allowed in strict areas.

Electricity 220v, 50Hz
The wall socket has 2 holes depending on whether they have earthling or not. Then you need an adaptor for these. This is available at all electric stores.
You can be in Croatia for 90 days with only your pass. That is if you are from most European countries, or USA or Japan. It is probably the best to check the list for which countries that need visa. You can check this at www.mvp.hr

How you get visa: Visa is delivered by Croatian ambassadors and at consulates. Only in a few cases people manage to get a visa when crossing a border. Children need to have their own pass or be registered in their parents’ pass. If you lose your pass you should go to the nearest police station immediately. The police must have acknowledgement that you have lost your passport before giving you a new one. Animals don’t have to be in quarantine, but they have to have got a vaccine.

Toll
Foreign and domestic currency can freely be used for export and import with the maximal amount of money being 2000 Kuna.
Taxes for tourists
For purchases higher than 500 Kuna, you have to fill out a form in order to pay taxes when crossing a border. Taxes in Croatia are 22%. Information on tlf: 01/6102-333.

Buy
The best souvenirs from Croatia are handmade, silver jewelry, corals and shells. A lot of interesting stuff made of wood can be found along the entire coast along entire coast. If you want to buy clothes in stores, you will experience ridiculously low prices.

Working
People usually work from 8-19, and 8-14 on Saturdays. In the summer season stores are open much longer. Most of them work to kl.21. Few stores keep closed during 12-16.

The tip
Tip isn’t included in the bill from restaurants. If you are pleased you can give 5-10%. Taxi drivers don’t expect tip, but they get happy if you give them some.
Currency
Croatian currency is 1 Kuna (HRK) =100 lipa. These are available 1000,500,200,100,50,20,10 and 5 HRK. The smaller currency is 5, 2, 1 Kuna and 1lipa. Toll limits: you can bring up to 2000 Kuna when entering Croatia. If you have more, you have to report it to the Croatian National bank. You can take out up to 2000 Kuna from ATM’s. if you need more money you can do it again.

Bank
They work kl.8-19 from Monday to Friday and 8-12 on Saturdays. They are closed on Sundays. ATM’s can be accessed 24-7.
How to trade money
You can trade into Kuna in banks and at hotels. There are also several other places where you can trade money.

How to pay
Cards like Euro card, MasterCard, Diners, The United States Express and Visa are common in Croatia. Almost all stores take these cards. Usually there is a sticker on the entrance where it says which cards you can use.

Post offices
Post offices have a yellow logo – HP. They are open Monday to Saturday 7-21 or 22 and 7-14 on Sundays. All post offices have phone booths outside, nest to them. You able send fax or trade currency. Post cards / stamps can be bought at post offices. Letter boxes usually have a yellow HP brand on them.
Phone, mobile and fax
Phone booths are available almost everywhere and can be used by inserting cards you get in stores. For foreign conversations you have to dial 00 and then the rest of the numbers. Cipher for Croatia is 385.

Mobile net
In Croatia there are 2 GSM webs; VIPNET (nr. 091) and CRONET (nr. 098). Both of them offer cards for calling.
TV radio and newspapers
With a regular antenna you can access regular Croatian channels, and if you are close to the border or the coast you can catch Italian and Slovenian channels. Parabolic dishes receive signals from ASTRA and HOTBIRD. Astra receives some German and a few English channels, while Hotbird receives Italian, Spanish and French channels. The radio web called HRT sends news in many languages in the summer due to tourists. There is a great offer of Newspapers and magazines in regular stores.

How to get to Cervar

A new road has been built through Istria, from Pula to the Slovenian border, and the other road leads to the tunel Ucka and then to Rijeka.

The olive oil in Istria has great quality and has been famous ever since the Roman empire. Istria is one of the few places so high up north where olives are to be found.
