The Sicilian connection to Trieste and Pula

The connection that connects Trieste and Istria will be up and running April 24th after being down for two years. More details about the new connection between Pula – Rovinj will soon be available. The ship called “Fiametta M” will soon sailing between Trieste and Pula. Rovinj will now be the harbour that includes two completely new connections. After an advertisement from the county of Istria, more details about the connection between Pula and Rovinj will be available soon. This is all due to the huge interest among the people who travel at sea.

The new connection between Trieste and Rovinj will be active from April 24th to September 21st. Fast ships will travel once every day, except on Mondays when they will travel twice both back and forth. On their way to Trieste, the ships will stop by Piran and Porec, as well as on their way back. Since the time of departure changes every day, one day the ship will leave from Trieste, the other day it will leave from Rovinj. This connection has been established by the Italian Ship Company by the name of Ustica Lines whose headquarters are in Trapani, Sicily. The company got its concession by the Italian Region Friuli-Venzia Giulia, and the region will support the company financially.

According to the Rovinjian tourist agency the Country Club, who is the sea agency of the company Ustica Lines in Croatia, a new connection will be established especially for the fast ships the “Cris M” and the “Fiametta M”, who at their top speed can reach up to 35 knots, they can sail at the worst conditions at sea and, on top of that, they can carry up to 210 passengers. According to the tables of departure, that already are announced on the web page of Ustica Lines, the voyage between Trieste and Rovinj will last for about 3 hours, and the tickets will cost around € 20.40.

The establishment of this new connection has renewed the one-time ship connection between Trieste and Istria. Ustica Lines are a fast-growing ship company who are involved with passenger and ferry transport. It was established in 1993, and holds the connection between Sicily and Tunis, Naples and Livorno, along with the islands around including the island Lampedusa. They also arrange field trips to the Canary Islands, where they also have the concession on the home trade. During the tourist season, Ustica Lines also arrange trips across the sea from Rovinj and Porec to Venice. The Sicilian Company also plans to establish connections to the Kvarner Bay and the Island of Losinj. The Region Friuli-Venezia Giulia count that tourists in Istria will use this connection in order to shop in Trieste.

The port authorities in Rovinj are looking forward to connection with Trieste because this will increase the transport in the harbour. The port authorities are ready to accept new connection between Pula, Fazana and Rovinj.

The traffic on the road between Rovinj and Pula is predicted to be high during the summer. This is way travelling at sea, both for tourists and for the locals, can be a great alternative. In order for this connection to work properly and better, Rovinj has also been included.
